They Are Here!

Well, after 26 weeks of pregnancy, Sarah and Emily decided that they were ready for the real world. Julie started having frequent contractions Thursday morning. After a couple of doses of Terbutalin failed to stop the contractions, she was moved to labor and delivery so they could administer Magnesium to her. Magnesium is suppose to be good at stopping the contractions; however, in return, it makes the mother feel really awful. After close to 24 hours of Magnesium and with yet a third medicine to try to stop the contractions, an ultrasound was done. The contractions did slow down considerably, but the ultrasound showed the cervix fully open with Sarah's (baby A) foot through the opening. The doctor did a manual exam and could feel the foot and immediately ordered a "C" section. The surgery went very well and I am happy to say that mother and babies are doing well. Of course at 26 weeks, the babies are very premature and are currently in the neonatal intensive care unit where they will remain for quite some time.

Sarah
This is Sarah. She weighed 1 lb 15 oz and was 13.5 inches in length at birth. Since her foot was sticking through the cervix, one theory is that she is just very rambunctious and wants to do her own thing. Therefore, she decided to speed up the whole birthing process. I must note that when visiting her in the NICU, she was wrapped up but had one leg sticking out. That girl just can't keep her foot in anything!

Emily
This is Emily. She weighed 1 lb 11 oz and was 13.0 inches in length at birth. The other theory why Sarah's foot was through the cervix is that Emiliy pushed her! Emily actually cried when she was born which is very good for someone born so early. Could she possibly have cried because Sarah got to come out first?
Again, Julie is doing very well. She will go home Tuesday. Sarah and Emily are doing very well considering how early they were born and their size. Although they are doing well, they are still gonna have a very bumpy ride for the next few months (and possibly much longer). Please pray for them to grow strong and healthy. We appreciate all the prayers, visits, calls and kindness shown to us over the last month and a half since Julie went in the hospital. I truely believe that Sarah and Emily are doing as well as they are due to the love and prayers of all our family and friends. We are truely blessed, and with Sarah and Emily we are doubly blessed! Thank you Lord Jesus.

Hugh
